Case 2: Folding Vs. Individual
Two main ways to create large opening walls are folding systems and individual panel sliding systems.
Folding systems (the WA, WD and SL systems) are panels connected together in a train. Panels can be hinged off both side jambs to meet in the middle.
Other variations and options available at Standard Folding Configurations.
Individual panel sliding (the HSW and VSW) systems are sliding panels on a single track that move independently into position. Panels are stacked generally out of the plane of the opening.
With the HSW systems, as the panels can make 90 degree turns, there is more flexibility in stacking.
More examples may be found at Individual Panel Sliding-Horizontal Rollers.
With the VSW systems, panels can be stacked more tightly against each other.
More examples may be found at Individual Panel Sliding-Vertical Rollers.
About 85% of all design solutions can be solved by the lower cost, easier use, faster operation,
easier installation, and minimal structural support folding system.
But, in situations where you need an opening without a floor groove (U-channel), or you want the panels completely out of sight when opened,
or you want larger sized panels, or you have an opening with many angles or turns or there other are special needs,
the individual panel sliding system may be able to offer a better solution.
