First of It’s Kind: The Rivers Casino in Des Plaines, IL

By NanaWall Systems, October 19, 2012

All types of facilities nowadays are designing to LEED specifications, as building for a sustainable future becomes increasingly important. In the long run, these efforts improve the environment and reduce operating costs. But would you expect a casino to be LEED certified?

The Rivers Casino is one-of-a-kind; it’s the first casino in the world to achieve LEED Gold certification. It’s not common for this type of facility to aim for green certification. Not only is the casino modern and beautiful, but it incorporates a variety of sustainable features. Examples? No smoking allowed. Live walls covered with golden pathos (green ivy) that grows toward skylights. Organic elements like natural light and outdoor patio access through wide NanaWall openings. The Rivers Casino serves as an exemplary model for the rest of entertainment and gaming industries; hopefully others will follow in their green footsteps!
