If sustainability is important to you when you remodel a home or design a new building, look for FSC certification on wood products. It’s the best indicator that a product was sourced in an environmentally-friendly, socially and economically responsible manner. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) sets very strict standards for forest products and ensures that they are met when they certify any product. You know the wood is sourced from a responsibly managed forest, from suppliers who work to protect the environment. Not only do they plant trees for each tree cut, they prevent pollution, avoid displacing native people and harming animals. FSC certified wood products are also ideal for architects who want to gain LEED accreditation; you can earn LEED credit for using 50% FSC certified wood in your project. A list of sustainable FSC accredited products is available here. Here are a few great products we came across that use sustainably sourced, FSC certified wood:

Natural, wide-plank flooring from Mafi

Maze Storing Shelf from Woodloops

Tillary Modular Outdoor from West Elm
