Hotel Indigo

Reimagining a Historic Landmark for Modern Hospitality

The Gaslamp Quarter is one of San Diego’s most entertainment- and tourist-oriented neighborhoods. It was settled in the 1860s as a way to connect the city to the ocean. Unfortunately, many of the historic buildings became run down in later years. Around the 1,300-room Hotel Indigo, the neighborhood has recently seen tremendous revitalization, helping transform it into one of the city's premier destinations.

Hotel Indigo occupies a historic building designed in 1913 and was adapted into a modern hospitality destination. The renovation preserved the character of the original structure while incorporating innovative features, including NanaWall opening glass walls, to create flexible and inviting guest spaces.

Promoting the Indoor-Outdoor Hospitality Experience

The fifth-floor ballroom at Hotel Indigo opens directly onto an expansive outdoor terrace overlooking PETCO Park, the bay, and downtown San Diego. NanaWall systems allow the interior event space to seamlessly connect with the terrace, creating a flexible venue that accommodates receptions, meetings, and social gatherings while maximizing spectacular views.

Maximizing Space Through Flexible Design

NanaWall systems fully open to merge the ballroom with the adjacent terrace, transforming two separate areas into one continuous event space. This flexible configuration expands usable square footage, enhances guest flow, and creates a more open and engaging hospitality environment.

“The NanaWall located at the fifth floor allows the entire room to open onto the roof deck, promoting views overlooking PETCO Park, the bay and downtown San Diego.”

Natural Ventilation and Daylight

Floor-to-ceiling glass fills the ballroom with abundant natural light while providing guests with sweeping views of the surrounding cityscape. When opened, the NanaWall systems invite fresh air into the space and strengthen the connection between the indoor venue and the outdoor terrace, enhancing comfort and the overall guest experience.

A Folding Glass Wall Designed for Restaurant Use

The first-floor restaurant features a NanaWall folding glass wall that opens the dining area to the surrounding streetscape. The system provides flexibility for daily operations, allowing staff to create an inviting open-air environment while maintaining security, ease of operation, and weather protection when closed.
