Sound Explanations IV: Putting It All Together

By NanaWall Systems, June 27, 2018

In the past few weeks we have discussed how sound transmission works, how glass type impacts STC, and how fenestration materials interact with one another once assembled. This week we’re wrapping it all up by discussing STC values as they relate to NanaWall products.

According to our graph, speech spoken at a normal volume can be clearly understood through materials rated at STC values of between 25 and 30.

Products with a rating of 30 to 35 STC can reduce the volume of normal speech to a quiet murmur. Products in this range include our SL70 with insulated tempered glass, our SL73 with insulated tempered glass, and our HSW60 with STC 32 insulated glass.

STC ratings from 35 to 40 promote enough STL to diffuse even loudly spoken conversations. The products in this bracket include our SL45 with STC 40 glass, SL60 with STC 38 glass, WD65 with STC 38 glass, WD66 with STC 38 glass, PrivaSEE, and SL80/81 with double insulated STC 38 glass.

By the time products reach the STC 42 to 45 range, even loud speech fades to a soft, mostly unintelligible murmur. The super sound resistant products that fall into this category are HSW60 with STC 45 special laminated glass, SL70 with insulated laminated STC 47 glass, SL73 with insulated laminated STC 47 glass, and the SL80/81 with double insulated laminated STC 47 glass.

Very few opening glass walls exceed the 42-45 STC range, thus opening glass walls in this category represent some of the most acoustically formidable in the industry.

Whether you're looking to outfit a school, office, restaurant, or residence, NanaWall has an abundance of exceptional sound solutions that are sure to meet the needs of any project.
