Flexible Office Design for CompTIA’s Washington, DC Headquarters

Occupying a Capitol Hill rowhouse, the Computing Technology Industry Association, or CompTIA, planned a move into a new facility designed to support the organization’s growth and create an inviting environment for IT professionals and companies.

KUBE Architecture’s renovation transformed the dark and uninviting space into a bright, sustainable, state-of-the-art workplace suited to the tech-focused organization.

Flexible Conference Room for Open and Private Office Space

With “order and light” as the watchwords of the renovation, KUBE set out to create a feeling of openness while maintaining functional individual offices. This was accomplished by defining offices as “additive volumes,” essentially interior glass boxes made with light metal partitions.

For CompTIA’s conference room, the design required a flexible solution that could provide both openness and privacy. Located adjacent to the reception area, the conference room can remain enclosed for private meetings or open to become part of a larger space for gatherings and events.

Acoustical Privacy with a NanaWall Folding Glass Wall

For the large opening separating the conference room from the rest of the office, KUBE specified five panels of the NanaWall SL45 Aluminum Framed Folding System. The top-hung folding glass wall spans nearly 14 feet and provides the flexibility CompTIA needed while supporting acoustical privacy.

The SL45 helps reduce sound transfer between the conference room and adjacent office areas while maintaining transparency, natural light, and visual connection. When opened, the system allows the conference room and reception area to function as one larger collaborative space.
