For Saint Marc Restaurant in Huntington Beach, CA, PHX Architecture envisioned a dining environment that could take advantage of the region’s temperate climate and extend the restaurant experience toward the outdoors. The design called for a unique operable glass wall system with an open corner configuration that intercepted a circular bar in the middle. The challenge was finding an opening glass wall that could accommodate the large opening, 90-degree angle change, and size variations to deliver a truly flexible restaurant space.

Creating a Flexible Indoor-Outdoor Restaurant
The Single Track Sliding and Stacking Glass Wall Solution
The design team specified a 10-foot-tall NanaWall HSW60 sliding and stacking glass wall with a 90-degree angle circumventing the circular bar area. The 55-foot-wide system includes 16 individual, top-hung panels that glide into two discreet parking bays. To accommodate the circular bar’s center island, two panels were specified at shorter heights to meet the bar intersection. A Low Profile Saddle Sill ensures ADA compliance, while a dedicated swing door allows quick transitions when the system is closed.
An Adaptable Dining Experience for Southern California
The single track sliding glass wall’s unique configuration delivers a flexible indoor-outdoor dining space that responds to the requirements of the venue. When fully open, the system seamlessly connects the indoor dining area to the covered outdoor patio, bringing fresh air and the energy of the outdoors inside. Similarly, during inclement weather, the system closes to create a protected dining environment while keeping the outdoor patio accessible when needed.
